A hand-forged iron chair, made in Britain during the 1980s or 90s. A spare metal frame rises into two exaggerated, serpentine lines, giving its back a nicely drawn quality while retaining the irregularities of something worked by hand.
The iron has aged particularly well, mottled with black, brown and flashes of exposed metal where the surface has worn over time. Recently reupholstered in rust-coloured suede, the seat picks up these warmer tones without competing with the shape of the frame.
Sculptural without being ornamental, its character comes largely from the tension between the very straight, functional base and the wandering lines above it.
