Gilt Wrought Iron Floor Lamp, France, Early 20th Century

£820.00

This medieval-style, candleholder-like lamp stands on a tripod base of curling forged iron feet. Its slender stem, worked by hand with irregular hammer marks, catches the light across its gilt lengths.

The stem is detailed with shallow drip pans and distinctive collar accents, its upright form recalling the traditional torchère, a standing support for candlelight, with this ceremonial quality carried through into its adaptation as a lamp.

Its aged surface has worn irregularly to reveal darker iron beneath.

Professionally rewired and PAT tested.

Height (without shade): 147cm
Width (at base): 36cm

Collection from Brixton, London or arranged delivery.
