A hand-forged iron wall hanger from France, likely made during the early 20th century. The projecting, snake-like hooks suggest an original purpose of holding keys, with a small central dish below for loose objects.
The ironwork grows upwards in curling, fern-like tendrils, punctuated by three wonderfully naive cut-out chickens.
Despite the chickens and foliate scrollwork, it doesn’t feel overly pastoral. There is something both welcomingly playful and slightly Gothic about it, sitting somewhere between a useful domestic object and a piece of folk sculpture.
