A sculptural bronze lamp, late 20th century, formed as an opening plant or flower, rising from a root-like base into a flared, petal-shaped shade.
Compellingly unusual in both silhouette and detail, it sits within the expressive, theatrical design language of the 1980s–90s, recalling the work of Garouste and Bonetti, particularly their more organic forms.
The shade is made from overlapping, leaf-like elements, pierced with stylised openwork. When lit, it casts a dramatically animated field of light.
The stem rises in a fluid line into a base that reads as roots or limbs – irregular and slightly surreal. The bronze has a rich, worked patina, with darker tones in the recesses and warmer highlights across the surface.
Monogrammed with an obscure “A” to the base, though the maker remains unidentified.
Sculptural first and functional second, it holds incredible presence even when unlit.
Height approx. 78 cm
Width approx. 26 cm
